Taipei Municipal Xisong Senior High School Library Rules

I. Library Reading Rules
1. All faculty, staff, and currently enrolled students of the school may enter the library during open hours to read and borrow/return books.
2. Opening hours:

- Monday to Friday: 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM
- Reading and borrowing/returning books are not allowed for students during class, lunch break, and cleaning time unless permitted by a teacher and approved by the library.  
Faculty and staff are not restricted by these times.
- The library is closed on national holidays, school holidays, and regular holidays. Special announcements will be made for winter and summer breaks.

3. Maintain silence while reading; loud talking, playing, and chasing are not allowed.
4. Smoking, eating, drinking, littering, or any other inappropriate behavior is prohibited.
5. Books and materials must be returned to their original places after reading. Items must be properly checked out before being taken out of the library.
6. All library equipment must be used properly; damages will be subject to compensation.
7. Readers who violate the above rules (III, IV, V, VI) will be warned and, if non-compliant or if the violation is serious, may be banned from the library or subjected to other appropriate actions. Those who do not follow the rules, infringe on others' reading rights, or exhibit other misconduct may be asked to leave the library and be required to perform 2 hours of library service. Serious violations may result in a ban from the library or school disciplinary action.

 

II. Book Borrowing Rules
1. Faculty and staff must borrow books in person. Students must present their student ID and borrow books in person.
2. The borrowing limits for faculty, staff, and students are as follows:

- Books (including periodicals, CDs, etc.):
- Faculty and staff can borrow up to 10 items.
- Students can borrow up to 7 items.
- Library volunteers can borrow up to 10 items.
- The borrowing period is 30 days.
- For newly purchased books, a maximum of 3 books can be borrowed for 14 days without renewal.
- Renewal:
- Books can be renewed once if no other reservations are made.
- Renewals can be done at the counter or through WebPAC online.
- Overdue books cannot be renewed.
- Reservation:
- Reservations can be made at the counter or online through WebPAC.
- Students can reserve up to 5 books; faculty and staff can reserve up to 10 books.
- Overdue:
- The library will notify students weekly to return overdue books.
- Students with books overdue for more than 30 days will receive a warning and have their borrowing privileges suspended. Further delays will result in additional warnings and continued suspension until the books are returned.

3. Borrowed books must not be annotated or damaged. If books are damaged or lost, the borrower must replace them with the same book.
4. Overdue fines for lost books will follow the library's overdue rules.
5. Student IDs must not be lent to others for borrowing books. If discovered, borrowing privileges will be suspended and the borrowed books must be returned.
6. Faculty and staff leaving the school or students graduating must return all borrowed books before leaving.
7. The library may recall borrowed books at any time for inventory checks.

III. Suspension of Borrowing Privileges and Compensation Responsibilities
1. Lost books must be replaced with the same book (same title, author, and publisher) or compensated by the library if the book is out of print.
2. Damaged books that are unreadable will not be accepted. The same compensation principles apply.
3. Borrowers must compensate for lost or damaged books within 14 days. Failure to do so will result in notification of parents and possible school disciplinary action.
4. Overdue fines will be accumulated based on the number of overdue days. For example, two books overdue for three days will result in a six-day suspension.
5. Borrowing books with someone else’s student ID is prohibited. Offenders will have their borrowing privileges suspended until the end of the semester.

7. Junior high school students are prohibited from borrowing comics.
8. Other rules:

- Reference books, newspapers, current periodicals, and yearbooks can only be read in the library and cannot be borrowed.
- The library may suspend book borrowing during inventory or special circumstances.
- Faculty and staff leaving the school or students graduating must return all borrowed books.
- Matters not covered by these rules will be handled according to relevant laws and school regulations.

 

IV. Discussion Room Loaning Rules
1. The library has five small academic discussion rooms available. Faculty and staff can apply for use through the online reservation system.
2. Discussion room hours are the same as library hours. They are not open at other times.
3. Priority is given to library activities and faculty teaching use. Student self-study is not allowed. Students with academic activities must fill out an application form and have the supervising teacher book the room online.
4. Teachers needing long-term use of discussion rooms for teaching must apply within the first month of the semester. Approval is required for long-term use.
5. Users must register online before the activity and collect the key from the library circulation desk. The same person must be responsible for collecting and returning the key.
6. Equipment and furniture in the discussion rooms must be used properly and kept clean. Eating and drinking are prohibited. Damages must be compensated by the applicant. Unauthorized equipment from other areas cannot be used. All equipment must be returned and checked after use.
7. Users must not engage in activities that do not align with the application purpose. Media used must comply with copyright laws.
8. Violating discussion room rules will result in 2 hours of library service and a 2-month borrowing suspension. Severe violations will be referred to the Student Affairs Office for disciplinary action.
9. The library reserves the right to terminate existing bookings for special school-wide activities or unforeseen events.


V. Library Search Area Equipment Use Rules
1. To facilitate library catalog searches, computers in the search area are primarily for this purpose. Viewing of pornographic or prohibited websites is not allowed, and violating criminal, civil, or copyright laws will result in legal liability.
2. Users should read the instructions next to the computers. Violators will have their usage rights terminated. Severe cases will result in a 2-week to 1-month suspension of borrowing and equipment usage. Repeat offenders will face school disciplinary action.
3. Users must register before using library computers. If usage is high, each session is limited to 10 minutes to avoid monopolizing resources.
4. Computers will be temporarily unavailable during library system updates or checks.
5. Users causing damage to library computers or systems through violations will be held responsible and required to compensate for losses.
6. Copying materials: Priority is given to copying library materials. Users must comply with copyright laws and related regulations. Violators bear all legal responsibilities.
7. These rules are effective upon approval by the school's Library Management Committee and are subject to the same procedure for amendments.
